LinkedIn ~ Building your brand

LinkedIn understands the dynamics are different in a non-profit and they are committed to helping non-profits network effectivelly.  LinkedIn has a dedicated non-profit area with groups that are a goldmine to your club.

Here are a few steps to follow to build your Rotary club brand on LinkedIn:

Profile Profile Profile ~ are you seeing a trend yet in buidling awarness in social media that first your profile must be rock solid, up to date, informative and give a GREAT sense of your club!!  Look around at other big non-profits including Rotary International.  In addition to setting up your company page, appoint a member as your LinkedIn spokesperson.

Network Network Network ~ This is social networking right, well the first step is to start with the people that you are already connected with personally on LinkedIn as well as club members, supporting organizations, local businesses and media.  The Groups feature allows you to join several groups that are closely related to the passion in your club.

Share an Update ~ LinkedIn's update feature allows you to write short updates that will appear on your profile and on the update pages of everyone who is connected with you or following your Rotary club. This is one of the most powerful features of using LinkedIn for your non-profit. Each status update could reach hundreds or thousands of people. Use the status update line to push relevant information and requests to your supporters. Reach out and ask people to take action (refer them back to a website, etc. for more information)!

Be a BIG DOG and Start Your Own Group ~ After you feel like you have established your brand, push it out further, be a big dog and start a group!  Here are the easy steps to create a group:

  • Move your cursor over Interests at the top of your homepage and select Groups.

  • Click the Create a group button on the right.

  • Fill in the requested information. A red asterisk means it's required.

  • Click the Create.. button to create your group as an open group or a members-only group.

Post relevant information there, ask questions and upload pictures. Invite all of your followers to join you there and get involved in the discussion. Starting your own group is a great way to open your LinkedIn network up to a real dialogue with your supporters and friends.
